Our Story

Welcome to Barrel Born. We're Rick & Barbara, the founders, crafters, and storytellers behind each piece of reclaimed whiskey barrel decor you'll find here. Our journey to creating these unique items has been one of evolution, passion, and a search for a more intentional way of life.

It all began under the Nevada sun in 2021 with dLUX Woodworks. Back then, our world revolved around crafting beautiful, high-end barn doors and distinctive pivot doors. We poured our energy into large-scale projects, honing our skills in precision woodworking and appreciating the inherent beauty of timber. Las Vegas was vibrant, exciting, but eventually, its relentless pace left us yearning for something more. We dreamt of quiet mornings, the scent of nature, and a deeper connection to our craft and our surroundings.

Whiskey Barrel Home Decor

Hammer, Homestead & Heart

That yearning led us eastward, to the rolling hills and serene landscapes of Marshall County, Middle Tennessee. Here, on our 10-acre homestead, we found the calm we’d been seeking. And amidst this newfound peace, our creative vision began to pivot. We were captivated by the rich history and rugged charm of aged whiskey barrels, each stave whispering tales of time, craft, and Southern tradition.

And so....

Barrel Born was created – a new chapter dedicated to transforming these storied pieces of American oak into distinctive home decor. The grand scale of barn doors gave way to the intricate beauty of wall art, the rustic elegance of candle and plant holders, and the character-filled functionality of wine and whiskey racks.

Our commitment....

to craftsmanship remains unwavering. We find joy in the details: painstakingly using a scroll saw to carve the major waterways and lakes into U.S. state silhouettes, breathing new life and unique dimension into the wood. For our signature flags, we meticulously tilt our scroll saw table just so—about 4 degrees—ensuring each star fits perfectly back into its cutout, yet recessed by about 1/8 inch, creating a subtle but captivating depth. It’s these small, deliberate touches that define our work.

At Barrel Born, we believe that the items in your home should do more than just fill a space; they should tell a story, spark a conversation, and reflect a genuine connection to materials and making. We pour our history, our passion for woodworking, and the soul of our Tennessee homestead into every piece, hoping to bring a touch of warmth, character, and handcrafted history into your home.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

Warmly,
Rick & Barbara
